Kym Garraway February Workshop

Twenty local artists joined artist Kym Garraway and the Stone County Arts Council for its February workshop “Painting Cotton Bolls!”

February Meeting and Workshop

The Stone County Arts Council will hold their regular meeting on February 20, 2018 from 5:30-6:30 pm at the Community Arts Center, Perkinston Campus-MGCCC.  All interested citizens are invited. For further information, call Sandra Cassibry- 601-928-6298.
After the meeting, Kym Garraway will lead a Watercolor Workshop from 6:30-8:30 pm, Community Arts Center, Perkinston Campus, MGCCC. Cost is $25 members, $40 non-members.  All supplies are furnished for at least one piece of art. STONE COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL SPONSORS COLLAGE WORKSHOP

Award Winning Artist Marilyn Ammons of Spanish Fort, Alabama, will present: COLLAGE FROM A-Z. The workshop includes creation collage papers and supplies and the use of them to finish a collage art piece. The workshop will happen on August 26, 2017, from 9AM – 3PM at Community Arts Center-Perkinston Campus, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Cost is $60 for members and $75 for non-members. Call 601 528-2343 to confirm space and additional information. Participants are encouraged to bring COPIES of “family” pics, letters, documents, travel artifacts..etc to include in your personal collage. Bring your own lunch.



BICENTENNIAL MURAL: You Are Invited to Participate!

Mural artist Kym Garraway will be painting the MISSISSIPPI BICENTENNIAL HEROES MURAL on the south wall of the Stone County Education Center (corner of Broad and First Streets) September 4-8, 2017. Community artists who would like to participate, please contact Kathryn Lewis at 228-6974505 to sign up for your time to paint. Stone High art students and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College art students will also be assisting.
Citizens are invited to come by and watch the journey. This mural is funded through a Bicentennial Grant from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History and the Mississippi Humanities Council.

After Retirement…Art – It’s a Journey

The Stone County Arts Council and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College,  Perkinston Campus, are sponsoring “After Retirement…Art – It’s a Journey” featuring Alabama artist Marilyn Ammons. The Gallery Opening will be August 30 in the Malone Fine Arts Building from 6:00-8:00 pm with the Gallery Talk at 6:30 pm.

Refreshments will be served and the Opening is free and open to the public.

Ammons will return to Stone County on September 10, 2016 to present an abstract landscape workshop. The workshop will be 9 am-3pm at the Community Arts Center, Perkinston Campus, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. “How to Paint Abstract Landscapes.” Class is limited to 15 students. Cost is $75 (Members) or  $90 (non-members). All supplies furnished to start and possibly finish 1-3 pieces. Bring your lunch.

Centennial Poles at the Bank of Wiggins

Celebrating Stone County’s Centennial! The first set of “Centennial Garden Poles” are located at the branch of the Bank of Wiggins! The Bank was one of the sponsors for the poles. Local artists painted the Centennial Poles, the Heritage poles that celebrate businesses that are at least 100 years old, and a theme pole that celebrates the business  (painted by artist Kym Garraway).

Congratulations to Stone County and the Bank of Wiggins on their 100th Birthday!

Join us January 14, 2016, at noon at the Lightered Know Community Kitchen for the signing of Song of the Birds. Kym’s newest book includes her beautiful bird paintings and spiritual notes.

“Little Free Library Houses”

As summer approaches, be on the lookout for the “Little Free Library Houses” in our community. These beautiful houses are painted by artists in the area and filled with books for children by the Friends of Stone County Libraries. This Community project benefits all of us.

The “Wise Reading Owl” painted by Kym Garraway will visit the Wiggins Library this summer for the Summer Reading Program. Beginning this fall, this Little Free Library willfind its home at Perk Elementary.

August 12, 5:30 PM, Visual Arts Center, MGCCC, Perkinston – Stone County Arts Council Monthly meeting. Open to all interested citizens.
August 19, 6:00 PM,Stone High School, Wiggins – Mural Dedication: Stone County’s 31st Mural will be dedicated . The mural is dedicated to Stone County’s strong agricultural presence and is titled: “Harvesting Knowledge through History.”  The mural was created by one of Emily Sumrall’s ninth grade classes with mural artist Kym Garraway and was funded by First Bank with donations from Jack’s Home Improvement. All citizens are invited.
August 30, 9AM-2PM, Visual Arts Center, MGCCC, Perkinston – Stone County Arts Council with quilt artist Marcus Weekly is offering a quilting workshop. For further information and to register for the class call Sandra Cassibry at 601-928-6298. Class size is limited.
September 16, 5:30 PM, Visual Arts Center, MGCCC, Perkinston – Stone County Arts Council Monthly meeting. Open to all interested citizens.
September 16, 6:30 PM, Visual Arts Center, MGCCC, Perkinston –  “Make It, Take It, Share It” workshop with three rotating sessions making shell crosses, stamped cards and angels. Workshop fee is $25- participants will make one, take one, and share one for a donation for the upcoming “Calling All Angels” fundraiser during the MGCCC “Festival of Lights.” Call 601-928-6298 to register for this workshop.
