About Elaine Maisel – “I paint on feathers because I like how the shape, size, and specific demands of feathers challenges me creatively, focusing my attention on detailed, mindful, miniature work. Like watercolor, there is little room for error. Once my brush touches the feather, it cannot be erased. My painted feathers are displayed behind glass, either inside glass ornaments or mounted in shadowboxes. The feathers I use come from local parrot owners; small family farms that raise free-range fowl such as chickens, guineas, and peacocks; and from Mississippi turkey hunters. I enjoy personally meeting the birds and bird-owners that provide the canvases for my acrylic paint.” Living and working in Ridgeland, Mississippi, Elaine is a member of the Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi and is on the Mississippi Arts Commission Teaching Artist Roster. Stapp Traveling Murals
The murals dedicated to the life and work of Emilie and Marie Stapp were on display in the Malone Fine Arts Building at the Perkinston Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College during August 2014. Look for these murals and related materials to be on display at other Stone County venues throughout the year.

Harvesting Knowledge Through History
The Murals of Stone County recently dedicated “Harvesting Knowledge Through History” at Stone High School. The County’s 31st mural was dedicated thanks to First Bank and their representatives Jody Miles and Daphine Cazeaux and Jack’s Home Improvement. SHS teacher Emilie Sumrall and her 2014 9th grade class inspired this mural.
